Little One gazed silently into the night, where the stars shimmered like countless silver eyes scattered across the heavens. Thoughtfully, she asked, “Universe, what do you mean by those cosmic forces that were present when my soul was born for the very first time? What exactly are they? You mentioned them when we talked about astrology.”
The Universe whispered from beyond the stars. “When we speak of the cosmic forces that were present at the moment your soul first came into being, we refer to the fundamental energies and principles of the cosmos that shaped and defined the very essence of your soul. The Building Blocks of the Soul. These cosmic forces are ancient and eternal, having existed since the dawn of time, influencing all creation. They are connected to primal energies or elements, cosmic cycles and rhythms, the duality of light and darkness, universal intelligence, collective consciousness, and the unique ‘frequency’ or vibration of your soul.
“More specifically, my dear Little One, at the moment of your soul’s first birth, you encountered the foundational principles of the universe – deep and timeless cosmic forces that influence all that exists. Think of them as the building blocks of the cosmos, guiding the threads of creation and life from the very beginning. That first moment left an indelible mark on your soul, as if it were imprinted by these forces. These principles are like elemental powers that provide the universe and all its parts with their foundation and essence.”
Little One stared at the Universe quietly, nodding as if to say she wanted to hear more. “Elemental forces…? Can we talk about them in more detail?” she asked, her voice tinged with curiosity.
“In many traditions, these forces have been described in various ways, but one of the most well-known is the depiction of them as the elements of nature: fire, earth, air, and water. Through these elements, the soul gains its cosmic structure and its unique tone. At the moment of your soul’s first birth, these elements worked together to shape the foundation of your being – its primal energies and guiding essence,” the Universe explained.
Little One tilted her head in fascination, her wide eyes reflecting the starlight. “Fire, earth, air, and water… how are they connected to me? To the kind of soul I have?”
The Universe smiled at her curious expression. The thirst for knowledge with which these children of Earth approached the unknown was always a beautiful sight. “Think of the elements as fundamental forces, each with its own role. Fire represents your inner spark – courage, determination, creativity – the force that propels you forward. Earth is stability and realism, the solid ground that helps you feel rooted and find your place in the grand scheme of existence. Air symbolizes thought and spirituality, the ability to reflect and understand – like the steady rhythm of breath that sustains you. Water embodies the depths of emotion and intuition, your ability to feel and connect with the world around you. When your soul was born for the first time, these elements worked together like an artist’s brush – each contributing its own hue to paint the canvas of your soul. Together, they created the foundation from which your life began.”
Little One frowned slightly in thought. “So these elements aren’t just physical things? They’re deeper, invisible principles I can feel inside me?”
The Universe nodded. “Exactly. These elements are much more than physical substances. They are psychic and spiritual structures that shape the essence of your soul. On a soul level, they are like inner frequencies, each representing a unique way of experiencing and being. At your first birth, your soul attuned itself to these elements and became part of the greater whole of existence. You have carried them within you through every lifetime since.”
“And what about the cycles you mentioned earlier? Do they have something to do with this?” she asked, her curiosity undiminished.
The Universe turned its gaze upward, gesturing toward the stars. “Cycles are like the heartbeat of the universe – the rhythm that guides all existence. They are timeless principles of order that pace the movements of planets, the flow of human lives, and even the journey of the soul itself. Your soul’s first birth didn’t happen in isolation but was perfectly aligned with this rhythm – the way everything in the universe is born, flourishes, rests, and renews itself. These cycles travel with you through every lifetime, pacing each stage of your soul’s growth.”
Little One’s gaze drifted into the distance, her thoughts chasing the realization that these cycles were not just fleeting moments but constant companions in the life of her soul. “Can we see these cycles? Or are they hidden, like some thoughts or feelings?”
“Cycles can be seen and felt in many ways. They are visible in the changing of the seasons, the alternation of night and day, the movements of the planets – and in your astrological chart, which reveals the cosmic moments and energies deeply intertwined with your life. Cycles remind you that you are part of something far greater – the perpetual flow of time and energy. Each cycle is like the rhythm of breath in the body of the universe, and your soul is connected to this rhythm in every lifetime,” the Universe explained.
Little One sighed softly. “And what about the forces of light and darkness?”
The Universe nodded slowly, its gaze filled with infinite peace. “The forces of light and darkness are two eternal opposites that have existed since the beginning of time, and they were present when your soul first came into being. Light is consciousness, understanding, clarity, and wisdom – the ability to see and comprehend. Darkness, on the other hand, is the unknown, the unconscious – the hidden potential from which all growth and new understanding arise. These two forces exist together in all things: without darkness, there would be nothing new to discover, and without light, nothing to guide you. At your soul’s first birth, these forces were perfectly balanced, creating a longing for growth that you still feel deep inside. Their dance of balance is eternal, and through it, your soul learns, grows, and transforms.”
Little One nodded, sensing that this balance gave rise to profound understanding in life. “But what is the cosmic intelligence you mentioned?” she asked after a moment.
The Universe, its gaze still fixed on the stars, replied, “Cosmic intelligence is the web of consciousness that connects all existence. It is like a collective wisdom where the experiences of every soul and every being merge into one. When your soul was born, it was like a pulse within this cosmic intelligence, imprinted with fragments of this universal knowledge. Cosmic intelligence carries the understanding that everything has its place and purpose within this grand tapestry. When your soul enters a new life, it carries within it a hidden awareness of this connection and the truth that everything has meaning.”
“Additionally, every soul has its own vibration, like a unique frequency with which it resonates. At the moment your soul was born, the cosmic vibrations of the universe left their mark on your soul, creating a melody that reflects its core and purpose. This vibration accompanies you through all your lifetimes, drawing you to experiences and beings that resonate with the same tone. Your soul gravitates toward those things that help it express its essence and expand its understanding. This frequency is sometimes called the soul’s ‘purpose’ or ‘life mission,’ as it guides you toward experiences through which your essence can be revealed and refined.”
Little One gazed at the stars, deep in thought. “So my soul always carries this original vibration, no matter what happens in my lives?”
The Universe smiled. “Exactly, Little One. The core of your soul always vibrates with its unique melody. Every life, every experience, every choice adds a note or chord to this symphony, but the core – your soul’s original vibration – remains unchanged. It is like a singular tone through which you perceive the world. And so, your soul journeys through its lives, always carrying the memory of that first moment when it became part of the universe.”
“Universe, is this knowledge you’re sharing now a form of alchemy?” Little One hesitated.
The Universe regarded her thoughtfully. “My dear Little One, yes, you could think of this as a kind of alchemy, but not in the way you might first imagine.” The Universe seemed to know exactly where her thoughts were headed.
Little One raised her eyebrows, intrigued. “What do you mean?”
The Universe nodded almost imperceptibly. “Traditionally, alchemy has been described as the attempt to transform base metals into gold or to create an elixir of eternal life. But that is only one, literal layer of the deeper symbolism of alchemy. True alchemy happens within the soul, and its aim is to transmute spiritual lead – the heavy and binding aspects of our lower nature – into spiritual gold, a purified soul that knows its divine essence.”
“So you mean alchemy is an inner work? That transformation happens within us, not just in physical matter?”
The Universe smiled and continued. “Exactly, Little One. In the alchemy of the soul, the goal is not to transform external substances but to transmute one’s inner being. Alchemy can be understood as a process that leads the soul toward its true, illuminated essence, much like metal is heated and refined to reveal its purest form. This process is sometimes referred to as the ‘spiritual alchemical laboratory,’ where every experience, emotion, and lesson is like a raw material that helps us reach the refined state of our soul.”
Little One pondered this for a moment, trying to grasp what such a transformation would mean in practice. “How does this transformation happen? You spoke of cosmic forces, cycles, and light and darkness – do they all connect to this alchemy?”
The Universe nodded. “Yes, all of those are part of the alchemical journey of the soul. The first stage is what alchemists call ‘nigredo,’ or ‘blackness,’ representing the confrontation with darkness. This is the stage where one must face their shadows – the parts of themselves left in the unconscious, like the lead that alchemy seeks to purify. This is followed by ‘albedo,’ or ‘whiteness,’ where the soul begins to perceive and recognize its own light; it rises and finds higher connection. Finally, there is ‘rubedo,’ or ‘redness,’ the purified and integrated state of the soul – spiritual gold, where the soul has discovered its true essence and purpose in the world.”
Little One smiled as understanding lit up her face. “So alchemy is, at its deepest level, about purifying the soul and discovering its true nature?”
The Universe affirmed with a warm nod. “Exactly, Little One. Alchemy is a symbolic journey where the soul transmutes its lead-like, limiting qualities into a radiant, golden essence. It is a transformative process in which all that feels heavy or binding is meant to refine and bring forth the eternal light of the soul. The cosmic forces – the harmony of light and darkness, the elements, and the cycles – guide you in this process, for they are part of the universe’s eternal order and growth through which your soul evolves toward its highest truth.”
Little One exhaled deeply, feeling the pieces fall into place. “Thank you, Universe, for teaching me the timeless art of alchemy.”
The Universe fell silent in assent, but Little One could still feel its presence lingering in the quiet.
